Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wellington Mthembo, said most of the projects have been completed and are already benefiting pupils and communities.
“In 2019 we received $3,9 million and the figure went up to $6,8 million in 2020 while this year we received $16,2 million. We used the bulk of the money to fund capital projects that include building classrooms, clinics, staff houses and drilling of boreholes,” said Mr Mthembo.

He said the construction of classrooms at four different schools had been completed and this had addressed the shortage of classrooms at the respective schools.
Mr Mthembo said the schools where construction work has been completed were Mazwa and Simunyu primary schools as well as Kwaarai and Thokozani secondary schools while work is still underway at Mqabuko Primary School.
“At Mqabuko Primary School work is almost 90 percent complete and pupils should move into the classrooms very soon,” he said.
Mr Mthembo said plans were also underway to construct more classrooms at Gobakhulu, Elihlo, Jabatshaba and Ziqalabeni primary schools as well as Asiphakameni, Tiki, Mthombowesizwe, Kwarai, Simunyu and Dumoluhle secondary schools.
He said they have also drilled boreholes for the different institutions and communities that will be solar-powered.
Mr Mthembo said the beneficiaries of the solar-powered boreholes include clinics and communities.
“We have also used some of the devolution funds to construct an Out-Patient Department at Mkhombo Clinic and also repaired infrastructure that was destroyed by a storm at the clinic,” said Mthembo.
He said council was also building six staff houses at different schools and clinics.
“We are also constructing staff houses at Tiki and Mkhombo clinics as well as teachers’ houses at Jabatshaba
Primary School, Kwarai, Semunyu and at Dumuluhle secondary schools,” said Mr Mthembo.
He said the council had also purchased a truck, a tractor and computers using devolution funds.
Mr Mthembo said the other projects underway include the construction of Ndimimbili to Lusulu road.
